Journal - Week 3

As the weeks are flying by I find myself getting more and more comfortable with the idea of using technology as a main source of research. The assignments this week really helped me become more confident and less afraid of the huge final assignment….. the pathfinder.
Going to the library this week opened my eyes to all the resources that I have available to me. I have been attending Big Bend Community college for more then a year now and never really set foot inside the library. For being a smaller community college library, it had everything that I could ever need. I was pleased with the helpful staff and the easy layout of the library. The assignment “organizing information” was an interesting one. It was especially fun to read other students ideas and to find out what their collections were. The assignments “databases”, “library catalogs”, and “the academic library visit”, were all very helpful and relevant to exploring my global topic. These assignments only made me more intrigued and ready to explore more!

Journal - Week 2

This week was an eventful one both with my personal life and also with my online class Research for the 21st Century. I started off thinking about what kind of topic that I would like to research. I chose a few that sounded somewhat interesting to me and I researched them using Internet Public library and also the Librarian’s Internet Index and then also completed the assignment The Web as a Research Tool. I found it was better to put more than one word in the search bar to get the article that I needed. Next I was very nervous as I created this blog. I was sure I was going to need help from my husband, but was happy to find out that it was really very simple. When it came time to submitting a topic proposal to the instructor I decided to choose a total different topic then I had originally researched. I felt more passionate about this topic, more connected to it, and found it much more interesting. I am excited to explore my topic in greater detail down the road. All in all this week was an intense one with lots of work, but a very good learning experience.

This is all so new...

I am making a post for the first time and crossing my fingers that I am doing it correctly! The ease of creating this blog has me wondering why I haven't started one earlier. It was pretty self explanatory. As long as you can follow simple direction, you can have your own blog, your own little place to share with world whatever is important to you! I just have the basics down now, but I would like to figure out how to make my layout more unique. Well, that is a little further down the road. I am just proud to say that I now successfully entered the world of blogging!
